An analysis of the income inequality in Brazil and the government response.

This thesis analyzes the income inequalities in Brazil focusing on the Bolsa Familia Programme (BFP), which is the government's current anti poverty program. The BFP uses a conditional cash transfer system in order to alleviate some of the income inequalities, providing money to the female heads of households provided that they follow the stipulations the government has implemented as part of the program. The thesis explores the current problems in Brazil that make it difficult to tackle inequality, while analyzing the economic indicators, such as the Gini coefficient, Gross Domestic Product, Income Ratios, and employment. Finally, it offers a policy alternative that might be effective in lessening income inequalities.
