Comparative validity of multiple neuropsychological screening tests in assessing memory dysfunction.

The aim of this study was to investigate a pilot memory screening program at a local Neuropsychology Center. Demographic information was obtained on 56 elderly volunteers, control subjects, and people with a diagnosis of Developmentally Delayed. Analysis of variance and a t-test was used on the Rey Auditory and Verbal Learning Test and the Trail Making Test to compare the archival test results in all three groups. The results illustrated that there was a difference in the independent variables. Furthermore, the elderly group who participated in the memory screening program performed well on both assessments, suggesting that there were no memory problems present. However, on further inspection, results suggested that people who worry about memory may actually be experiencing other problems that can be found with more thorough assessment batteries.
