Developing first-level supervisors in the Air Force Security Assistance Center: An examination of core supervisory competencies for job effectiveness and performance.

This research study discussed competency/performance outcomes of first-level supervisors in the Air Force Security Assistance Center located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Constructed on the foundational premise that individual and organizational effectiveness increased with the performance of competent supervisors, various qualitative and quantitative assessments were examined to determine if the Air Force leadership model provides the right competencies for effective supervisory performance. The utilization of descriptive and inferential statistics produced selected analysis tools, such as frequency distributions, cross-tabulations, measures of association (lambda and gamma), tests of significance (chi-square and t tests), were accomplished to determine the relationship, strength, direction, and differences of the subcompetencies and proficiency/performance results, and to address the research questions.
