Intervention through collaboration: The development of a domestic violence coordinated community response team.

Domestic violence is a public health epidemic, which affects millions of families in the United States each year. Since the 1970's, victim advocates have sought to raise awareness and change institutional policies, procedures, and attitudes regarding violence against women. One result of these initiatives has been the development of coordinated community response teams, which redirect the responsibility for domestic violence from women onto the community by coordinating agencies into a streamlined intervention. Currently, Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago, does not have an organized interagency model of collaboration, which impairs stakeholders' ability to significantly impact domestic violence in the community. Thus, this program will fill a need in the Village of Hoffman Estates by implementing an empirically supported approach to family violence specifically tailored to the existing resources and unique needs of the community.
