Depending on what you are after, a song can benefit from a gorgeous melody or, from the distinct absence of one. As quoted by Victor Hugo, 19th century French poet and novelist, "Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent." This statement reigns true for many young adults. As most children transition from their early childhood into their teen years, they often struggle to find a vehicle that helps them to convey their emotions in a positive, effective manner. For many of those children, music becomes the outlet of expression that ultimately shapes and defines teen identities and creates universal bonds that only require a rhythm and a series of musical notes. Unfortunately, their choice of music can often have negative connotations from adults in their lives that hold position of power. But music can be a voice of reason in a sea of confusion and desolation. It is a universal language that engages the psyche of its audience. This project will demonstrate that music can be a positive influence and can help guide teens through times of grief.
