A history of science illustration: The effect of nature imagery in the media on humanity's response towards environmentalism.

The media shapes our views about environmental advocacy or opposition. This study argues that the use of magazines, television, and films to portray environmental issues can be used to persuade people to take a more active role in the environment if they incorporate powerful visual imagery, and that climate change cannot be solved without the use of scientific illustrations to help society understand the consequences of its actions. This paper explores how others have used visual imagery in support of preservation and conservation, using photography and other media to reinforce social change. As part of a creative project, this study includes educational imagery created by the author regarding animals and plants that are being affected by climate change. These images are meant to persuade people to consider their actions and to reinforce the idea that everything is connected.
