Meta-library: A public platform for information exchange.

摘要

Recent transformations in information technologies and transfer continue to challenge and inform the conceptual framework of the public library. This thesis explores the potential for a central public library in Halifax, Nova Scotia to reflect a cultural identity and signify a broad commitment to public information access. Architectural propositions are put forth that seek to provide increased social networking and spatial adaptability in the library space.Royal Artillery Park, a military occupied site in the downtown core provides the testing ground for these explorations. As a centrally located but socially introverted space in the city, the site offers untapped potential for connecting urban tissue, providing public space, and reintegrating military and public functions.
