Adult identity development, rites of passage, and the Bermudian male adolescent.

The purpose of the phenomenological research was to understand the essence of adult identity development for Bermudian male adolescents and the influence of rites of passage. Adult Bermudian males retrospectively examined the value that was placed on rites of passage in their development. Two research questions were developed and were presented as follows: What was the essence of adolescent cultural identity development for adult Bermudian males between the ages 18 to 21 years old? What is the value that the Bermudian male adolescent places on rites of passage in creating a cultural identity? In-depth, face-to-face, semi-structured interviews were used to collect data and the investigation employed a convenience sample of 9 Bermudian male adults.
