As America has experienced unprecedented levels of offender incarceration; the need for effective reentry initiatives has increased. Moreover, successful reentry programs could reduce the amount of recidivism produced by those who were the product of ineffective correctional programs. The development and implementation of effective reentry practices have allowed for improved public safety.;Effective reentry programs and practices offered reasonable solutions to a steadily increasing prison population while allowing for cost-effectiveness. As most incarcerated offenders return to society, the primary purpose of reentry programs has been to protect the public while allowing for offender rehabilitation. Although sound reentry programs may produce positive results for society, corrections professionals should be trained to recognize the appropriate programs for all types of offenders. Corrections professionals could evaluate all placement options regardless of convenience or offender choice. Successful placement of reentering offenders may allow for supervised placement along with properly formatted programing. The purpose of this study was to examine the difference in the frequency of recidivism for those who received a general parole release from prison and those who were paroled after reentry programs were applied. It was found that there were more cases of recidivism during the period after reentry programs were applied than there were previously during the general release program. The study also demonstrated that gender had no statistical significance with regard to recidivism of those who received reentry programming.
