Laser communications is one of the most recent developed applications of transferring information. This thesis presents and developed minimization methods to optimize optical communication link efficiency. The efficiency is evaluated by the bandwidth and the power consumption of an optical communication system to maintain a particular bit error rate. The fSONA optical communication link system is originally used for execution of the optimization methods. The optical link efficiency has been evaluated while taking to account external and internal gains and losses. The efficiency corresponds to its bit error rate and produced by data transfer at a specific bandwidth while operating at various transmission of optical power. The link performance has been evaluated by using various tools provided fairly results. A simplified version of the optical communication link has been constructed at the lab and optimized using various optimization methods. These methods compared and demonstrated the ability of optimizing optical communication link efficiency by maintaining the highest possible bandwidth and operating at the minimum system power dissipation, while obtaining a sufficient bit error rate. These methods can be implemented to preserve system resources.
