Resistance to technology, evolving from paper contracting to electronic contracting: A case study of army contracting.

Resistance to technology exists within organizations and can vary depending upon employees and their individual experiences. Prior research suggests that resistance to technology exists in various forms, and can become a factor when implementing new systems, and changing business practices. The purpose of this qualitative case study is to describe the level of technology resistance experienced by employees in this Army contracting organization. In this case study, a pilot study interviewing five employees was used to validate interview questions, and to create an instrument that would capture employee experiences changing from paper contracting to electronic contracting. The remainder of the study included 15 employee interviews examining employee experiences with paper and electronic contracting. Currently employees use: computers, applications, and automated processes; prior to using electronic contracting, employees used paper contracting: paper documents and storage, manual processes, and hand written or typed functionality. This case study explored the factors of technology resistance based upon individual employee experiences expressed in interviews focusing upon the frequency of repeated words used by employees.
