Me and You: A Qualitative Study on the Effectiveness of a Group Methodology Utilizing Yalom's Therapeutic Factors and Adult Learning Theory.

摘要

The author examined the effectiveness of a group methodology of group psychotherapy formulated with theories from Yalom's interpersonal group psychotherapy and adult learning theory. Yalom's therapeutic factors were used as structure to enhance the understanding of a here-and-now interpersonal group process and to engage the group members in experiencing the benefits from being part of a group. Adult learning theory strategies and techniques were incorporated to assist the therapists' in the instruction, facilitation, and adaption of the interpersonal learning material to the target population. According to intensive chart review, group leader's clinical observations, staff and client reports on the semi-structured interview, the group members experienced improvements in mood, self-esteem, social skills, interpersonal understanding, and overall engagement in the group process.
