An examination of factors related to reoccurring relapses from schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.

A quantitative research design was utilized to examine factors related to relapse and reoccurring symptoms from schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. The samples used in the research study were adults who have a diagnosis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The participant's ages ranged from eighteen and older. Four instruments were employed for data collection in this research. They included the Recovery Assessment Tool (RAS), Mental Health Recovery Measure (MHRM), Multi-Axial Diagnostic Inventory Revised (MDI-R) and the MOS Social Support Survey (SSS). Demographic information was also completed as a part of the data collection process and included , number of admissions, age, diagnosis, date of diagnosis, gender, race and treatment adherence/non-adherence. Contrary to the expectation, there was no significant relationship between the examined factors which included self-determination, hope, social support, views, beliefs and number of relapses, controlling for age of patient and adherence/non adherence to treatment regimen in patients who have relapsed due to reoccurring symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar.
