Factors Influencing Policewomen in Georgia Turnover Intentions: A Multiple Regression Analysis

Police agencies face challenges in sustaining policewomen. The attrition of policewomen is problematic throughout the rank structure. The problem is a pre-existing and a continued lack of understanding of root causes of disproportionate and minority populations of policewomen in relations to their turnover intentions. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to assess the level of turnover intentions of policewomen in the State of Georgia in relation to the police culture, perceptions of organizational support, organizational commitment, and sociodemographic characteristics (e.g., age, ethnicity, rank, tenure, and agency size). The sample was 89 policewomen in three levels of rank from agencies in the State of Georgia, who informed about experiences with turnover intentions. Through a quantitative method and correlational design, survey data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. There was no association between the police culture and the turnover intentions of policewomen in Georgia. Perceptions of organizational support significantly associate with the turnover intentions of policewomen in Georgia. Organizational commitment significantly associates with the turnover intentions of policewomen in Georgia. There was no association between sociodemographic characteristics and the turnover intentions of policewomen in Georgia. This quantitative study advances literary knowledge in the field of management of organizational leadership and the law enforcement profession. Through investigative research, this study provided a deeper understanding of factors associating with disproportionate populations of policewomen and why female officers think about leaving the job; which may later result in turnover.
