Language of Resilience: A Mixed-Method Study of Resilience Levels and Writing Proficiency in the General Education Development Program Participants of Nashville Tennessee explored the presence of resilience levels and writing proficiency in the General Education Development program participants. The mix-methods study examines factors involved in development of resilience and writing proficiency of the Nashville GED population, as well as the phenomena indicated by respondents as to their educational experiences. The instrumentation of a survey with open-ended question demonstrated that levels of resilience do exist in GED program participants. Interviews of study participants revealed the presence of academic resilience factors, thereby triangulating survey data. Categorically GED participants demonstrate Emerging Resilience levels rather than High Resilience levels. In the area of writing proficiency GED program participants demonstrate Below Proficient levels in writing. Further implications for the relationship between resilience and writing abilities are examined.
