The contemporary art disquisition in reaction to military, surveillant, and digital control.

Following the Second World War, the American people have inherited a range of technologies and principles characteristic of the military. This has resulted in a militarized structuring of the public; a concern taken up by contemporary artists. The thesis discusses how art proves to be one of the last organic social organizations, which transformed incredibly due to the changing social scape. Leading the research is a historical perspective on the marrying of military and civilian life that began in the postwar era, and the artist's interpretation of that integration. The research focuses on four artists--Harun Farocki, John Gerrard, Jill Magid, and Trevor Paglen--who embody the current state of art making, and continue to revolutionize visual culture and the research-based practice. They deliver contemporary significance in their innovative methods, permitting their audience to realize both that society lives in a controlled state and that its perception of reality is illusionary.
