The aim of this thesis is to study how the use of visual style, camera movement, color, mood, sound, post production, and acting direction can enhance the effect of a short comedic and fantastical film. The short film created based on the research compiled is titled A Pointless Pencil and references the works of groundbreaking directors such as Edgar Wright, Wes Anderson, Marc Webb and many others.;The thesis is broken into several categories with headings representing each aspect of filmmaking and outlines the proposed plan for A Pointless Pencil to integrate those ideas into each area.;The majority of the thesis was written before production of the film began but the final section is written from the hindsight once the film was complete. The final section entitled critique, looks at how each of the proposed ideas were implemented either successfully or unsuccessfully in the final film.
