摘要

The purpose and focus of this study was to determine the differences between normative Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) U. S. leadership preferences and Black American Catholics' GLOBE leadership preferences. Additionally, this study examined the differences between Black American Catholics' leadership preferences and GLOBE U. S. leadership preferences based on participants' demographics. Finally, this study contributed to extant leadership research regarding Black American Catholics. Participants were anonymously surveyed and data were collected using the GLOBE Leadership Behavior Questionnaire (section 2, GLOBE survey questionnaire Form Alpha) and the GLOBE demographic survey (section 5, GLOBE survey questionnaire Form Alpha) developed by House et al., 2004. Significant leadership behavior characteristics were identified and documented; inferences have been drawn from a collection of data. Statistical analyses were conducted. The results included significant differences found between age, years of work experience, formal education and CharismaticNalue Based leadership. There were also significant differences found between age, formal education and Team Oriented leadership. Additionally, a comparison of differences between Black American Catholics' (BACs) mean preferences and GLOBE U.S. normative leadership preferences found differences in four of the six GLOBE leadership behaviors (Team Oriented, Participative, Autonomous, and Humane Oriented leadership behaviors). The identification of these characteristics could allow for better identification, selection, recruitment and retention of future leaders for local, regional, national and international interests. Leadership behavior characteristics have been well researched overtime. Research usually originates from an external observer's point-of-view and not from a practitioner's experience (Yin, 1989). This was the first study that specifically examines Black American Catholics' leadership behavioral preferences for Roman Catholic Church leadership. There is no research or documentation regarding Black American Catholics' leadership behavior preferences with Roman Catholic leadership behavioral dimensions. The data could be significant in enhancing various communities' awareness in recruiting and selecting future Black American Catholic leaders. This study could also impact academic program development and dynamic community organizations as well as Roman Catholic Church strategic planning.
