Effects of Health-Related Posters on the Selection of Healthy and Unhealthy Snacks Made by Office Employees.

Many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and obesity, may be prevented through healthy food choices in all environments; therefore, it is important to find easy and effective ways to promote healthy eating. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effects of health-related posters on the selection of healthy and unhealthy snacks made by office employees in order to provide a simple and cost-effective strategy for employers to use when investing in their employees' health. The posters contained both health-related social and informational messages that encouraged the selection of healthy snacks and discouraged the selection of unhealthy snacks. Results demonstrated an increase in the selection of healthy snacks and a decrease in the selection of unhealthy snacks during intervention as compared to baseline levels. These results suggest that messages displayed on the health-related posters might have functioned as rules leading to a desirable effect on snack selection made by office employees.
