Mitigating aquatic invasion: Implementation of predictor models in New York's Adirondack Park.

In today's increasingly globalized world, the intermingling of humans has far reaching ramifications on the corresponding ecosystems they find themselves in. Recently, this has resulted in the establishment of non-indigenous species in nearly all regions of the globe. This study focuses on eleven invasive species found within 126 lakes in New York's Adirondack Park. Through the use of publically available data such as the 2012 Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) annual report, as well as the National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD), independent variables are drawn upon to be analyzed in predictor models that seek to delineate uninvaded lakes of potential concern. Models were tested using ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, and validated with logistic regression. A total of twelve metrics across three models were found to be significant predictors of aquatic invasion, highlighting the success of this study, and stressing the need to replicate studies such as these in other areas.
