摘要

Purpose. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a debilitating, often recurrent condition characterized by impairment across numerous areas of functioning. Although correlates of MDD have been identified, mechanisms that make individuals susceptible to developing MDD have received less attention in the literature. Method. Two-hundred and eight undergraduates completed the Young Schema Questionnaire -- Short Form Three, the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale -- Revised, and a demographic questionnaire. Results. Correlational relationships were observed between depression, quality of life, and five Early Maladaptive Schemas. A multiple regression model was also established that predicted the presence of depression using schemas, quality of life, and sociodemographic factors, with four schemas emerging as significant predictors of depression in a stepwise regression. Discussion. The researcher discusses implications for future research, for the advancement of schema theory, and for clinicians working to address depression in college-enrolled young adults.
