ne of the complete, comprehensive and yet faster methods of analyzing the well logs is by using computers. A logic is prepared in computer language based on the methods used by an experienced log analyst to pick the zones of interest. This method of formation evaluation is the most useful in studying long intervals consisting of several formations. The program will pick the zones of interest which could have been overlooked by visual inspection.;The computer program prepared for the present study consists of the following steps. (1) The program picks the zones which meet the "bed discriminating" and the "zone discriminating" criteria. The logic is prepared using SP log, 16-in. Normal log and Induction log. (2) After the zones of interest are picked, the program computes shale content, effective porosity and water saturation values. The program also prepares plots such as the bulk density - neutron porosity crossplot and porosity vs Rt. (3) The program also incorporates corrections such as borehole condition, mud density effect, shale effect and gas effect.;The Mesaverde formation in Hayward
