This research is concerned with developing a family of location-travel choice models. Four types of the combined urban location and travel choice models are formulated in the manner of Evans' combined trip distribution and assignment model as equivalent optimization problems. The principles of user-optimal network equilibrium and choice dispersion are applied to choices of residential location, destination, mode and/or route. One or more nested entropy constraints are used to model the tendencies for dispersion of choice, producing one- and two-parameter estimation problems. Each model is implemented on the Chicago region network in conjunction with the Urban Transportation Planning System software package. A model's performance is investigated in terms of its calibration, convergence to the solution, and validity of results. Emphasis is given to evaluating the procedures from the viewpoint of practical application.
