The Problem. The problem was to determine what relationship, if any, existed between the selected "natural" traits of quickness, speed, jumping power, shooting success, agility, height and weight and the game performance of basketball players as measured by statistics.;Findings. Of the seven "natural" traits of quickness, speed, jumping power, shooting success, agility, height, and weight, only shooting success was found to have a significant correlation (at the .05 level of significance) to the statistical game performance of basketball players as measured in this study. In addition, all seven of the "natural" traits accounted for only a small portion (ten per cent) of the variance of the dependent variable statistical game performance.;Conclusion. Statistical game performance is significantly affected by shooting success but not the tested measurements of quickness, speed, jumping power, agility, height, and weight. Furthermore, factors other than those "natural" traits studied in this investigation must account for much of the variance of the statistical game performance.;Recommendations. Further research needs to be done in relating the "natural" traits of basketball players to their game performance. Additional studies need to be done investigating the rating of basketball game performance by the statistical game performance procedures. Future studies ranking basketball performance need to compare their results with the statistical game performance index to give reliability to statistical game performance method.;Procedures. Fifty male college basketball players were tested to evaluate their natural traits of quickness, speed, jumping power, shooting success, agility, height, and weight. Conference basketball game statistics were kept on each subject. These statistics were used to compute a statistical game performance for each subject. The simultaneous solution and the forward stepwise inclusion technique of the multiple regression analysis were administered to the raw data. Individual and group correlations were determined to see the relationship of the "natural" traits (independent variables) to the statistical game performance (dependent variable).
