RELATIONSHIP OF CAREER PLATEAU TO OCCUPATIONAL ASPIRATIONS, ATTITUDES AND PERFORMANCE.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of career plateau to occupational aspirations, attitudes and performance. The attitudes studied were job satisfaction and job involvement. The study explored the hypothesis (null) that occupational attitudes and performance of managers would not be affected by career status (being plateaued or nonplateaued), or level of aspirations (high or low), or by the interaction of career status and level of aspirations.; A set of managers' responses to questions measuring job satisfaction, job involvement, and job performance from a large existing data set were analyzed in four groups (a) plateaued, low aspirations, (b) plateaued, high aspirations, (c) nonplateaued, low aspirations, and (d) nonplateaued, high aspirations.; It was found that neither career status nor level of aspirations affected managers' levels of job satisfaction, job involvement, or job performance. No evidence was found to support the idea that aspirations interacted with career status to affect job satisfaction, job involvement, or job performance.
