Key factors that contribute to alternative high school diploma graduates' college success

The focus of this study was to explore key factors of college success for students who have completed an alternative high school diploma program and were enrolled in postsecondary education. This study sought to identify key factors that contribute to alternative high school diploma graduates' success in college. This basic qualitative study was designed to understand how alternative high school diploma graduates interpret their college success after completing an alternative high school diploma program. Qualitative interviews served as an effective approach to gain insight, knowledge and understanding from the perspective of alternative high school diploma graduates enrolled in college. During this study, eight alternative high school diploma graduates shared their college experiences on key factors that contribute to their success in college. The research findings determined there were 14 key factors that influenced alternative high school diploma graduates success in higher education, including school and faculty support, self-efficacy, motivation, and social connections. The findings offer a platform for the alternative high school diploma graduates to voice their college experiences on key factors that contribute to their success in college.
