The purpose of this research project is to give a good knowledge on FSO technology. This project includes a description on the working of FSO transceivers and the challenges faced by the FSO technology since it uses the "laser through air" as its medium of communication. It covers the research going on in the field of FSO and the extent to which the FSO transceiver manufacturers have implemented the recent research advancements in their transceivers.;The research part of this document discusses the various technologies used in FSO transceivers and how they have contributed to the improvement in transceivers performance. The type of transmitters, receivers and alignment procedures are also described in terms of their use in the FSO transceivers. The FSO laser safety standards implemented by the international standards organizations are also discussed is detail.;The market part gives a brief overview on the FSO companies and their product lines available in the market. This part of document covers a comparison chart which gives valuable information on the best FSO transceivers available from different FSO manufacturers. It also includes an analysis and a transcript of a 33 questionnaire survey answered by the Senior Technical Engineers of the leading FSO transceiver manufacturers and vendors.
