The development and implementation of a program for the assimilation of new adult members into Christ United Methodist Church, Greensboro, N.C.

This project focuses on the large number of adults who join the church today, but are never assimilated into its program and activities. The intent is to study the meaning of membership in the New Testament Church and in the Methodist tradition to determine how that knowledge must help in finding a solution to the church dropout problem.;The main emphasis of a program of assimilation should focus on strengthening the relational groups in the church and making a concentrated effort to enlist new members to participate. This project developes a program for the assimilation of new members that involves the leadership and major bodies of the church.;One characteristic of the early Christian church and of the Methodist movement in the beginning was the strong koinonia/fellowship. This factor was identified by the new members of Christ United Methodist Church as one of the motivating factors for their joining. The majority of the people surveyed for this project said that the major reason they had joined was for a "sense of belonging.".
