Development and validation of the Arabic version of the Job Descriptive Index (JDI)

The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability of the Arabic version of the revised Job Descriptive Index. In addition, job satisfaction among managers at Saudi ARAMCO was measured and analyzed in relation to age, education, experience, national origin and management rank. The population for the study was full-time managers in Saudi ARAMCO. A total of 153 managers out of 250 (61.2 percent) completed and returned the survey. The data-collecting instruments were the managers' data sheets and the revised JDI. Numbers, percentages, means t-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were employed to analyze the data. The level of significance was set at 0.05. A Scheffe method of multiple comparison was used for follow-up investigation.;The results of the study revealed that Cronbach's alpha values of the new scale were relatively high. For example, the co-workers alpha was 0.8447, job in general was 0.7779, supervision was 0.7663, promotion was 0.7197, present work was 0.6632, and present pay was 0.6446. The high reliabilities of the Arabic version of the revised Job Descriptive Index revealed that statistically the items within a scale seemed to be reasonably homogeneous, with good internal consistency. Furthermore, the results of the study indicated that there were significant differences found with regard to age, years of experience, education, and management rank.
