The issue of communication concerns the ability of a supervisor to function correctly in the presence of a communication facility. The concept of strongly well-posed w.r.t time-delay (SWPTD) is proposed for centralized supervision which will ensure that a supervisor S has correct real-time behavior despite the characteristics (communication delay and protocols) of the communication facility. This concept is further extended to decentralized supervision where the concept of locally SWPTD condition is proposed which will ensure that a set of decentralized supervisors ;On the other hand, the issue of translation concerns the relations between the formalism and the real system. The concept of atomic abstraction is proposed which suggests a future research direction on how one can build a model describing the behavior of the real system and generate a controller for that real system.;Finally, an architecture for the implementation of real-time discrete-event systems is proposed which addresses the two issues discussed above. An experimental prototype was designed and implemented in the lab as an example of the proposed architecture and for verification of theoretical claims about the SWPTD condition.
