America's pop collector: Robert C. Scull; contemporary art at auction.

On October 18, 1973, Robert Scull, a private New York art collector who in the 1960's built one of the major contemporary art collections in the United States, auctioned fifty works at Sotheby Parke Bernet for ;America's Pop Collector is the title of a nonfiction film that chronicled that watershed event. From the start, the intention was literally to record history-in-the-making with a camera. Theories, methodologies, collaborative working relationships and film distribution were explored and tested through the making of the film document. This thesis is a chronicle of that experience as well as an evaluation of the theories that were developed and tested. The background, the origination, the execution, the marketing, and the distribution of America's Pop Collector are also examined.
