Parent perception of adapted physical education programs for the handicapped child as a factor of parent participation.

Six major components of the guidelines for parent participation have been frequently issued in the special education area. The six components are: (1) parental knowledge, (2) teacher-parents communication, (3) attitude of teachers, (4) satisfaction about school service, (5) child's integration with non-handicapped students, and (6) child's physical education programs. In this study, difference of each of these components were investigated by using two categorized groups: parent of sports participants and non-sports participants.;A questionnaire containing the six components was developed for parents of handicapped children in Ohio. Total sample size was 591 including 388 (65%) parents of sports participants and 203 (35%) parents of non-sports participants.;The results of ANOVA tests indicated that the parents of the two groups equally responded for the five of six components. Only one component, the satisfaction level about child's physical education programs, showed significant difference.
