Changes in corporate library services, 1981-1991, in selected libraries in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area and selected petroleum and energy libraries in Texas and Oklahoma.

The purpose of this study was to collect historical data on the types of services offered in selected corporate libraries from 1981 to 1991. A survey was developed and mailed to 26 libraries meeting the study criteria, one part of which was that the same librarian would have worked there all ten years, from which 18 responses (69%) were received. Based on the survey responses, four representative libraries were chosen for case study purposes, and the librarians were interviewed in-depth. From the survey, services which decreased from 1981 to 1991 included abstracting, photocopying, and research report writing. Services which increased included database creation, external and/or internal database searching, end-user training, and current awareness services. Services which showed little or no change included circulation, general reference, interlibrary loan, purchasing, and journal routing. The case study results supported the survey results, with many of each library's services having been automated.
