Design of a video monitor panel on a commercial aircraft for passenger information and entertainment.

This thesis describes the design of a panel to support a liquid crystal display (LCD) video monitor for passenger information and entertainment on a McDonnell Douglas MD-80 commercial aircraft. The design considers material and manufacturing processes, strength and deflection analysis, human factors and Federal Aviation Administration requirements. The panel attaches under the overhead stowage modules and was designed to be installed with existing attachment hardware. The LCD monitor, a separate power supply, a passenger address speaker and a lighted no smoking/fasten seat belt sign are all integrated into this panel. The video panel is the first of its kind to be offered on a narrow body, single aisle production commercial aircraft.
