A motion augmentation scheme developed by L. D. Reid and P. A. Robinson was adapted for use with two aircraft configurations and a turbulence model suggested by P. A. Robinson's work on the simulation of atmospheric turbulence. The augmentation was then applied to the heave channel of the UTIAS B-747 Flight Research Simulator, resulting in increased vertical acceleration response to turbulence. A procedure for the pilot testing of the augmentation method was developed and executed. These evaluations did not indicate a conclusive improvement in the perceived realism of the simulation when the augmentation was applied. There was some suggestion that an increased level of augmentation would produce an improved simulation. The experiment was successful in identifying a single functional form of the augmentation for use with both aircraft configurations.
