Evaluation of construction techniques for tailored skirts.

This study examines couture, industry, and home sewing techniques used to construct tailored skirts. Five construction parts were studied: (a) zipper, (b) waistband, (c) buttonhole, (d) seam finish, and (e) hem finish.;The data were analyzed by a Friedman Two-Way Analysis of Variance, a Kendall Coefficient of Concordance: W, and tests of multiple comparison. Rank differences were revealed by the Friedman Two-Way Analysis for each construction part. Results revealed the judges' preference for the couture zipper, the home sewn buttonhole, the industry waistband, the home sewn hem finish and both the industry and home sewn seam finishes.;The Kendall: W examined agreement among judges. Results revealed moderate agreement in assessing the best zipper, moderate agreement in assessing the best.;The sample consisted of three size eight misses tailored skirts constructed from 100% wool fabric. Fourteen judges with apparel backgrounds ranked their preference for each technique.
