Uncertainty management issues in the object-oriented database model.

摘要

Object-Oriented Database Systems, have gained wide acceptance as a data manipulation tool for complex applications such as CASE, VLSI, multi-media, CAD/CAM etc. The acceptance has been a result of the ability of the model, to provide a large variety of modeling primitives and support for both structural and behavioral abstraction. While the Object-Oriented Data Model has been extended to include features such as version management, extended transactions etc., there has been a significant lack of active research in the description of a model capable of handling imprecise information. This thesis describes an Object-Oriented Data Model capable of representing and manipulating imprecise information and defines an object algebra for the model. The question of uncertainties in the class hierarchy and object membership are considered, from the standpoint of classical fuzzy set theory.
