Increasing process maturity through process modeling.

The success of an enterprise in generating system products for projects in a specific application domain within cost, schedule, quality, and product constraints is related to the process maturity of the organization. This thesis integrates the interrelated areas of: process modeling; domain, application, and point solution engineering; and the Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model (CMM). Generic modeling guidelines are proposed which enterprises can tailor to meet the needs of product lines in specific application domains. These guidelines refine some of the criteria of the CMM and propose an architecture of reusable process assets and an ordered set of modeling steps to facilitate an organization's progress toward total quality management (TQM). Particular attention is paid to proposing guidance for an organization's transition from level two to three of the CMM.
