On-line dynamic stability analysis of the Taiwan power system.

Dynamic stability has been discussed intensively in the past few decades, especially when continous low frequency oscillation was observed in both the computer simulations and the real systems. However, most programs developed for analyzing the dynamic characteristics of a power system are still applied in a planning or studying stage. They can not effectively provide a good picture or information to the system operators to prevent or correct low frequency oscillation in a very short period of time.; Taiwan power company is one of the companies that suffer from low frequency oscillation. In order to help the system operators to capture the current dynamic characteristics conditions of the system, an On-Line Dynamic Stability Analysis System "ODSAS" was developed by the Energy Systems Research Center of UT Arlington.; This dissertation presents the development of an "On-Line Dynamic Stability Analysis of Taipower System" and some of the field testing information. The main accomplishments include: set up a communication interface channel for fetching the on-line real time system data from Taipower's EMS, design a computer network based system to perform the on-line tasking, convert the on-line system data for load flow studies, perform dynamic system reduction for speeding up the calculation time in eigenanalysis, and provide a trend of system dominant eigenvalues for the system operators to evaluate the system performance.
