Women's religious associations and social change in South Africa: A study of Methodist women's organizations.

It is fair to say that the relationship between religion and politics, or better still, religion and revolution is a challenge to many political analysts. At no time is the church neutral, isolated or unaffected by ideology and social struggles occurring in society. The church is an integral social institution often reflecting the various struggles in society. The central issue, of course, is under what conditions will members of an aggrieved community rebel, particularly those who belong to religious communities, thus making religion and religious institutions a force for social change. This study focuses on the revolutionary potential of women's religious associations in the struggle to transform South African society.
