NAVSTAR Global Positioning System: Theoretical study and practical applications.

This thesis presents a study of the NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS is a space-based radionavigation system providing accurate navigational information for users. The study of GPS focuses on the basic concepts, GPS signal structure and characteristic, and the crucial advanced technique employed in GPS design: Direct Spread Spectrum, Pseudo-Random Noise sequence, and Binary Phase-shift Keyed. The analyses of typical GPS transmitter and receiver are also discussed in detail.;The theoretical study is reinforced by the design and construction of a mobile GPS receiver, using a commercial GPS engine. The receiver consists of the Rockwell NavCore V GPS engine and the Control Interface Unit. This receiver is capable of providing the user navigational information and recording user traveling route.
