An analysis of strategies and barriers concerning Title IX compliance of intercollegiate athletic programs in NCAA Division III institutions.

he purpose of this investigation was to observe and analyze the efforts toward compliance to Title IX by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III institutions. Special attention was paid to critical barriers encountered and strategies employed toward Title IX compliance. The investigation utilized a survey developed in conjunction with a panel of experts. A total of 517 surveys were mailed to athletic directors and senior women's athletic administrators at 300 NCAA Division III coeducational institutions. Responses were received from 339 administrators (65.6%) representing 242 schools. Five null hypotheses were posited regarding athletic administrator responses and were analyzed by variables including gender of administrator, public or private institution represented, whether intercollegiate football was in the sports program, and success of the football program.
