Three strip casting processes have been compared using numerical modeling as the vehicle for the comparisons. The processes are Melt Drag, Twin Roller Casting, and Two Roller Melt Drag. All three of these processes have been used in industry, but it is not known which, if any, has an advantage over the others with respect to product quality or process control.;The objective of this study was to characterize the behavior of each process by varying controllable parameters such as wheel speed, melt superheat, and melt contact length with the casting wheel. Also, one less controllable variable, the steel/wheel heat transfer coefficient was varied. The dependency of the cast thickness on these parameters and variables was established.;In addition the numerical modeling program, FIDAP, used to conduct this study, was evaluated with respect to ease of implementation and completeness of solutions.
