摘要

The purpose of this research project was to explore more fully one of the common sex stereotypes concerning gender and professionalism: that females are less committed to their professions than males. Members of the Human Resource profession were surveyed and information was obtained regarding their levels of commitment to both their organizations and profession; perceptions of conflict between their organizations and their profession; organizational information; professional background; and personal characteristics.; This research project contributes to the research literature on professionalism by investigating if the antecedents of commitment and the relationship of professional and organizational commitment which exist in established professions are applicable in an administrative profession. Further, the influence of gender on commitment levels is studied.; The findings indicate that differences in the professional commitment levels of males and females appear to be most significantly affected by levels of conflict and organizational commitment. Differences in the organizational commitment levels of males and females appear to be most significantly affected by levels of conflict and professional commitment.
