This thesis examines the applicability of numerical modelling methods to the analysis and prediction of radiation hazards within the HF band on board naval vessels. In particular, it investigates the current radiation hazard restrictions placed upon the Big Eye binocular assemblies on an IROQUOIS class destroyer. Analysis complies with radiation exposure limits defined by Health and Welfare Canada Safety Code 6. The procedure and considerations necessary in the development of a wire-grid model for use at these frequencies are also illustrated and discussed in detail. Modelling guidelines, model fidelity and model validation and calibration principles are presented. As well, a novel approach to the visualization of near-fields is introduced.
