An evaluation study and business plan development for an academic nursing center.

A nonexperimental, descriptive design was used to conduct an evaluative study of the Wellness Center, an academic nursing center operated by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing. Based on the conceptual framework of total quality management, the principles of which were developed by W. E. Deming, the purposes of the study were to evaluate current operations and past performances of the Center and develop a business plan to guide operations and future planning. Components of the evaluation included faculty interviews; financial analysis; and a review of program activity, student and faculty activity, research activity, health care delivery trends, administrative and marketing issues, and a community health assessment. Recommendations for future action were presented. Utilizing information from the evaluation of the Wellness Center and an external industry analysis, a business plan was developed for the exclusive use of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Nursing School.
