ifferent sources of interference in a satellite communication system are identified first and then a mathematical model of this multiple access system is developed. Analytical expressions for the output of the system functional model, when there is phase, time and frequency mismatch, between the transmit and receive sides, are presented. From the output of the Channel Of Interest (COI), it will be shown that the interference is a function of pulse shape, synchronization error, number of users, the channel spacing between them and the relative level of the users with respect to that of the COI. The problem is to establish the performance of the multiple access system model in the presence of the interference. The approach to performance analysis is to compute the multiuser matched filter output Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR), of the system model, for arbitrary pulse shapes.
