This thesis uses GIS technology to integrate geological maps, aeromagnetic data, Landsat TM and satellite-borne radar imagery for the Hearne Lake area and the Carp Lakes area in the southern Slave Province, Northwest Territories.;Using GIS to isolate the magnetic signatures of individual granitoid plutons, it may be possible to: (1) identify magnetic discontinuities within single granitoids, and (2) compare quantitatively the magnetic data from different rock units. These concepts were applied to the analysis of six granitoid plutons in the Hearne Lake area (Amacher, Redout and Morose granites, and granitoids from the Defeat plutonic suite, Prosperous granites, and Meander Lake suite). Multiple groupings of magnetic data were found for the Prosperous granites and the Meander Lake granitoids. The Defeat and Redout granitoids are identical in terms of their magnetic signatures; however, the Amacher granite and the Morose granite are distinctly different magnetically from each other as well as from both the Defeat and Redout granitoids.;Landsat TM and ERS-1 radar data were integrated with geological maps and aeromagnetic data to analyse regional Late Archean to Early Proterozoic geological structures in the Carp Lakes area. The complex fault systems are the result of at least two regional deformation events. The first was an episode of regional north northeast-trending dextral simple shear, and the second was a regional north northwest-trending simple shear. The fault pattern of Carp Lakes area is a system of strike-slip faults and associated Riedel faults, a pattern that is shown to closely resemble the numerous "secondary faults" in the Yellowknife area.
