The determination of hepatic lipids in DMBA treated rats fed casein/soy with or without 20% energy restriction.

ne hundred and twenty, 9-week old Sprague-Dawley female DMBA-treated rats were randomly assigned to four dietary groups (30 rats/group) for 18 weeks. The four dietary groups were: C-AL - casein diet, ad libitum; C-R - casein diet, 20% energy restriction; SPI-AI - soy-protein diet, ad libitum; SPI-R - soy-protein diet, 20% energy restriction. Hepatic total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) of the rats were determined on those tumor-bearing rats that survived to the end of the study. The n for each dietary treatment group used in the present study was 8, 9, 9, and 8 for C-AL, C-R, SPI-AL, and SPI-R, respectively.
