Location translation issues and applications in highways.

摘要

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the issues and applications related to location translation in highways and to explore the importance of location translation for highways. Through extensive research, we come to understand location referencing (spatial and linear) concepts and linear location referencing data models. Geographic information systems (GIS) use in highway location referencing methods is also discussed. After proposing a GIS-based database for linear location translation among four different location referencing methods, we developed a GIS-based application for optimal route generation with linear location translation capability. Different location translation and optimal route generation issues are also discussed. Finally, several recommendations are made for future improvements to the application.
